Mandi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mandi Rohit Rathore said that for environmental protection, all departments should ensure to take concrete steps to make people aware about waste management. He was speaking while presiding over the meeting of the district level committee constituted for various pending and settled cases of the National Green Authority in the DRDA committee hall. In the meeting, the work being done to maintain the air quality of Sundarnagar was reviewed, along with this, the work being done to maintain the quality of the Beas river was also reviewed.
He said that scientific disposal of solid and liquid waste is necessary for environmental protection. He said that all departments should ensure to give information about the progress made in this regard every month so that the orders given by the NGT are strictly complied with.
He said that as per the guidelines of the NGT, serious work has been done on solid waste management, especially plastic waste management in the district. He informed that in the urban areas of Mandi district, wet and dry garbage is being collected from door to door and its scientific disposal is being done.
Rathore directed the officers of urban bodies to keep a close watch on the dumping sites identified in their jurisdiction. At the same time, crackdown should be done against the miscreants doing illegal dumping along the road.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that concrete steps should be taken in a time-bound manner under the groundwater management system. He said that before installing borewells at various places in the district, ensure that all formalities including registration is completed by the concerned person. Where borewells are already installed, they should be registered as per rules soon.
He told the health department that bio-waste water should be disposed of properly. At the same time, he also asked the health and forest departments to complete all the targets in their jurisdiction in a time-bound manner. He directed all the departments of Mandi district to tighten the noose on the land-mining mafia by mutual coordination.
In the meeting, Regional Officer and Member Secretary of District Level Committee of NGT Affairs Vinay Kumar presented all the issues point wise for review before the present officers and representatives of various departments.
Municipal Corporation Commissioner SS Rana, Project Officer DRDA GC Pathak, Assistant Director Animal Husbandry Dr. ARS Kapoor, District AYUSH Officer Dr. Rajesh Kumar, DTDO Manoj Kumar, Consultant Dr. Preet Thakur, DFSC Pawan Kumar Sharma, along with officers and representatives of various departments were present in the meeting.
