Direct warnings of flash floods were issued in Shimla, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts, Orange alert issued for very heavy rain
With the increasing activity of monsoon in Himachal Pradesh like last year, heavy rains have been falling in various parts for the last three days. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains with thunder in the state for the next three days. An orange alert for very heavy rain has been issued in Himachal on Friday during the next 24 hours.
An alert has also been issued regarding flash floods in three districts of Himachal Pradesh till 11:30 am on Friday, in which direct warnings of flash floods have been issued in Shimla, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts.
Local people have been advised to take precautions during flash floods. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in the entire Himachal Pradesh till July 7. Heavy rains are going to reduce from July 8.
Surender Pal, Director, of Meteorological Center Shimla, said that the monsoon has now become fully active in Himachal Pradesh. Also, heavy rains have been continuing in many places of the state for the last two days and there is every possibility of heavy monsoon rains continuing for the next two to three days.
Surender Pal said that heavy rains have been predicted in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Chamba, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur districts of the state on Friday, due to which an orange alert has also been issued.
Due to heavy rains, there is a constant threat of landslides and falling of trees. Also, there is a possibility of damage to standing crops, fruit plants, and seeds sown just now.
He said that due to heavy monsoon rains, 11 cm of rain has been recorded in Sundarnagar during the last 24 hours. Also, 11 cm of rain was recorded in Palampur, 8 cm in Shimla, 8 cm in Gohar, 8 cm in Mashobra, 7 cm in Jogindernagar, 7 cm in Baijnath and 5 cm in Mandi.
As of Thursday evening, 81 roads were closed in the state due to landslides from the mountains. Also, 17 transformers and 13 drinking water schemes were disrupted in the state.
